I've been wearing my Viking outfit for over two years now, and it is an indispensable part of my SCA garb! The medieval dress colour I had originally wanted was in a red, but was unavailable. I was recommended to try a green, and what a great choice!
The gown alone is a sumptuous med/heavy weight light green linen that wears beautifully. The finishing on all hems looks hand stitched.
The Hangeroc (apron dress) I ordered with it was in a lovely mulberry/tan herringbone weave. It's a blend, which is completely machine washable, which is very handy. The ring brooches with it are an excellent touch, especially if (like me) you can't afford or don't wish to have turtle brooches.
I chose the Jorvik (Coppergate) Hood to with it. Don't be fooled by the photographs, the hood is indeed a heavy weight ( tabby weave) silk. Your head will be kept warm! (and your hair out of your face!)
At summer events I can wear the gown alone on hot days, and then on cool evenings, or at court, the apron dress keeps me nice and toasty warm.
I wore this gown while volunteering at an SCA demo at our annual sci-fi convention here in Halifax, Nova Scotia. (Hal-Con) and met John Rhys-Davies while wearing it. He called me beautiful!
I'm sure it was all because of the dress! (Thanks Gwen & crew!)
