Single leg hose can be seen in artwork from the 13th (Maciejowski Bible, image above), 14th (Tres Riches Heures) and early 15th (Mantegna) centuries. Worn laced to our 13th or 14th century braies or belt, these versatile leggings may be worn rolled down to knee or ankle in hot weather.

Pattern is a variation from hose fragments found at Baynards Castle Dock. The attached foot has been redesigned to remove the underfoot seams. Simple laces are included.

Chausses are made from a fabric which looks like wool even on close inspection.  Unlike wool it is machine wash/dry, colourfast and non-allergenic. Chausses made of 100% new wool are available as a made to order item here: Custom Wool Chausses.  The mill we work with stocks approximately 50 colours including a historically accurate brown black and green black.

We will always choose the chausses which best complements other items in your order. If you have a specific request, please make a note in the Order Comments section of the Order Form. You can also email or call us at 760.789.2299 to discuss your order. Model is wearing burgundy

No visible exterior machine stitching. Sold as a pair (2).
