We are pleased to offer historically accurate, artisan produced thread for your historical craft projects.

The wool yarn used in this collection is suitable for all types of embroidery, lace-knitting, tapestry weaving, small loom weaving and creative textile work.  The colours are derived from natural dyestuffs which were commonly used in Europe and England prior to 1500. The dyes produce beautiful and harmonious shades which work well together.  Only dyestuffs with good fastness characteristics have been chosen for this collection, assuring long life for your project.

Collection #1 contains ‘First Bath’ colours which are the deepest, darkest and most saturated colours. Their rich hues make them perfect for needle arts where the weaving or embroidery will glow like jewels on any colour fabric.

Each folio contains 6- 25m skeins of hand dyed wool and a leaflet giving the history of dying and dyestuffs.

This thread is produced by Andie and Adriaan Luijk in a converted barn in the foothills of the Pyrénées in France where they live. The wool comes from a flock of organically raised Poll Dorset sheep who call the hills of England home. The herd’s wool is spun in Yorkshire, England. The yarn is then carefully dyed with natural dyes, wound and labeled by hand.
