The cut of our Gored Kyrtle is based on a number of extant garments which share similar patterning details, specifically, the Skjoldehamn kyrtle (rcd to 1029AD) and Kragelund man's kyrtle (1045-1155).

This kyrtle falls into the "Nockert Type 1" classification, having a tubular torso. The lower edge is full due to gores inserted into the side and/or center front and back. The neckline has a slight V shape taken from the Skjoldehamn kyrtle (shown at right). The sleeves are tapered to the wrist, and has a square gusset under the arm for freedom of movement.

As with all of our garments, cut and construction are based on extant examples and historical practices. Specific details will vary from garment to garment based on size and fabric selected. In order to make the best use of the fabric, larger pieces may have secondary seaming and/or pieces.

This product has been developed in consultation with the Authenticity Officers for Regia Anglorum in the US and UK, as well as the Authenticity Officers for the Vikings UK and NA.

PLEASE NOTE:  Our wools come from a US mill that manufactures their own high quality goods, and stocks dozens of historically appropriate colours.  We're now able to get almost any colour you desire, from palest to darkest shades. See the colours here: WOOL SWATCHES. Each garment will be custom made, and we will contact you for your measurements when your order is placed.

No visible machine stitching. Hand woven trim and hand finish available at additional cost.  Please enquire when you place your order.

Production note: Custom/Made to measure garments are individually made and custom sized using the measurements you provide. Please measure carefully, made to measure garments can not be returned. Please allow 4-6 weeks for production plus adequate shipping time for your made to order garment.
