Anglo-Saxon Tunic is based the cut of the Moselund (c.1050-1150) and Rønbjerg Mose (c.1280) garments which share similar patterning details.

Generally associated with the Anglo Saxon period (c. 900-1100AD), this kyrtle falls into the "Nockert Type 2" classification. The body is generally "A" shaped from the shoulder, with gores inserted into the center front and back to increase the width at the hem. The sleeves are tapered to the wrist, and have a square gusset under the arm for freedom of movement. The rounded neckline has center front slit.

As with all of our garments, cut and construction are based on extant examples and historical practices. Specific details will vary from garment to garment based on size and fabric selected. In order to make the best use of the fabric, larger pieces may have secondary seaming and/or pieces.

This product has been developed in consultation with the Authenticity Officers for Regia Anglorum in the US and UK, as well as the Authenticity Officers for the Vikings UK and NA.

PLEASE NOTE:  Wool for this garment comes from a US mill that manufactures their own high quality goods, and stocks dozens of historically appropriate colours.  We're now able to get almost any colour you desire, from palest to darkest shades.
