The Bayeux Tapestry describes the Norman invasion of England and the events that led up to it. The Tapestry contains hundreds of images divided into scenes each describing a particular event. The scenes are joined into a linear sequence allowing the viewer to "read" the entire story starting with the first scene and progressing to the last. British comic book artist Bryan Talbot has called it "the first known British comic strip."
Renaissance Arts has captured a segment of the tapestry depicting the Battle of Hastings. Norman knights on horseback attack from both sides as the air fills with arrows and lances. The English soldiers, who are all on foot, protect themselves with a wall of shields. Pandemonium reigns as the fight for England rages.
