Silk Road Spice Collection

Our Silk Road Spice Collection contains a full dozen aromatic spices and seasonings commonly available to the medieval cook. Modern gourmands can use the selection to full their choice of container to create delectable, historically inspired meals in their home kitchen or in the field.

Each unbleached linen sack contains nearly a full pound (450 g) selection of spices. The selection includes a generous portion of each of the following:

• Cane sugar cone 
• Cardamom 
• Stick cinnamon
• Cloves 
• Cubebs 
• Sliced ginger root 
• Grains of paradise 
• Mace blades
• Mustard seeds
• Nutmegs 
• Powder douce
• Powder forte 

Also included are 3 leaflets:

• Forte and Douce Powder- History and 2 recipes.
• Foods and their availability in 15th C. Europe- A list of foods commonly used in Europe in the 15th C, and the season they were available.
• Favourite Medieval Recipes- 5 of Gwen's favorite recipe reconstructions.

A tiny wooden spice scoop adorns the bag, and is perfect for adding spices to the pot!
