After an example made in Innsbruck now residing in Schoß Churburg, this chamfron incorporates the hand hammered fluting representative of the 'gothic' style of the late 15th century. The plate riveted to the forehead is a decorative miniature 'ecranche' or tilting shield with lance notch, and conceals a plume holder. These decorative shields were often etched or painted with the arms of the owner.
