Pouch, Kidney-shaped, 1300-1480

Based on examples in paintings and illuminated works of the 14th and 15th c. Visual sources include the Luttrell Psalter (c.1325-35, BL Add. MS 42130 f. 197b), The Romance of Alexander (c.1340, MS Bodl. 264 f. 138) and Bocaccio's Decameron (1430-40, Bl'A, Paris, MS. 5070), as well as numerous mid 15th C. paintings by Robert Campin, Petrus Cristus and Rogier van der Weyden. 

Archaeological examples may be found in the Museum of London's Dress Accessories book, as well as 'Purses in Pieces' by Olaf Goubitz. 

Our leather 'kidney' pouch is hand sewn in black or brown top grain leather.  Each has a hand cast bronze buckle taken from a 14th-15th C. example in our collection. Fits a belt up to 1.25" (3 cm) wide. 

About 8" wide. Hand cast bronze buckle.
