Package, Ladies', 15th C. gown

Worn as an outer gown by the middle classes and as an undergown by the upper classes, short sleeved gowns of this type are seen throughout Europe from about 1440-1480. Our version is taken from the gown worn by Mary Magdalene in Rogier van der Weyden's "Deposition" and "Seven Sacraments" paintings.

Front laced bodice is bias cut for close fit, and the full circle skirt makes for very flattering and graceful lines on most body types. Brocade sleeves are worn pinned to the short sleeve of the gown and are made of complementary colored brocade fully lined with natural colored linen.

These high quality garments have no visible machine stitching except for lacing eyelets. Wool/linen and linen sets are suitable for reenactment use when eyelets are hand-whipped. Budget cotton set is suitable for costume and re-creation groups.
