These are the most historically accurate reproduction medieval shoes made in the United States today.
Our shoes and boots are hand-made on reproduction lasts using historically accurate Medieval construction techniques. They replicate the shapes and patterns of medieval shoes of the period 1200-1500 AD as pictured in "Medieval Finds from Excavations in London: 2 - Shoes and Pattens" by Francis Grew and Margrethe de Neergaard.
We currently offer a selection of the most popular sizes. Generally "half sizes" are not necessary, due to the flexibility and resiliency of the leather we use.
If you are unsure of proper sizing, we recommend providing your modern shoe size AND foot tracing. Trace one foot in sock with your weight even on both feet. Make a 1 inch (or 3cm) box within the foot tracing for proper scaling. Post to us (see our contact info) or fax to 760-789-6644 or send by email as a jpg attachment. We will do our best to confirm your size choice based on the foot tracing.
Pattens are highly recommended to substantially prolong sole life and increase wearing comfort of your shoes. Wearing pattens protects both your feet and shoes from dampness, mud, cold ground and the occasional stone underfoot. Because they are sized to coordinate with the size and shape of our shoes, we only make pattens for shoes of our own manufacture.
