Hat, Split-brim, 15th-16th Century

Wool hat with 2 piece brim split on the sides, and a soft "muffin" crown appropriate for middle or upper classes. Hats of this type are worn by well to do men in Netherlandish, Italian and German art of the 15th C., and young, stylish men and women in the Mittelauterliches Hausbuch (1480’s German). This style of hat persists well into the 16th C. in Germany and Italy in the works of Durer and Bronzino.
