Pourpoint, 14th-15th century, MADE TO ORDER

References to the "pourpoint" crop up in records all across Europe during the 14th and 15th C., but the exact cut remains elusive. One of the best descriptions occurs in the Ordinances of Louis the XI: "...a doublet [pourpoint] without sleeves or collar, of two folds of cloth, that shall be only four fingers broad on the shoulder; to which doublet shall be attached the chausses." A reference dated to 1450 lists and explains the pourpoint: " The doublet is maad with poynynges, For whi it is cleped a purpoynt." (Pilgr.LM (Cmb Ff.5.30)

Our pourpoint is a a body skimming shape which closes in the front with points. As indicated in the Ordinances, we have omitted the sleeves and collar. The pourpoint is made of 2 layers of linen, with your choice of colour on the outside and lined with our signature oatmeal. It has thread eyelets worked in the hem to support chausses, split hose or full joined hose, and eyelets in the front to close.  Laces to close the front are supplied.
