Sallet, Italian, Open Faced, circa 1460, Spring Steel

This helmet is based on typical examples of sallets manufactured in Italy and Flanders, and exported to countries all over Europe. Typically this style was used by footsoldiers This helmet has the graceful lines of a typical sallet, incorporating a low crest, which offers strength and a very effective deflecting surface. The edges of the helmet are turned to the outside by hand. These helmets are quite substantial and are suitable for most reenactment purposes.

We recommend the installation of a quilted linen liner, which can be stitched into a leather lining strip which we have riveted into the helmet at ear level. The lining strip is pierced with holes for the lining stitching, so you only need a needle and thread to install your liner.

Hardened and tempered .072" (~2mm) thick 1050 Spring steel.
