Poleyns, circa 1275-1330, Spring Steel

Knee defences (poleyns) of this type were sewn to quilted fabric (gamboised) cuisses, and fastened with a strap around the back of the knee, while the couters (elbow defenses) were held on with straps. Poleyns and couters appear in the late 13th century and persist through the end of the 14th C.

Raised by hand in our workshop from plates of 1050 spring steel with no welding, then heat treated for superior dent resistance, and finished with a high polish to resist rust.

Strapped and ready to use.
