Why is the linen ivory instead of white?

Pectins in flax linen make it a greyish beige color. Bleaching and other processing reduce the color to a light or dark cream or eggshell color we term ivory. Linen can be commercially bleached to a blinding white, but we prefer this softer color, so this is the fabric we use for our clothing. The pectins that give linen its color do not resit sunlight, therefore the ivory color will continue to fade each time you wash it.
