Garters, buckled

Bias cut stockings, 'Knytt netherstockes of worsted' and other legwear required garters to hold them up. Chausses often benefit from garters below the knee to keep them sleek and smooth over the calf. By the 1320s men's garters had become a conspicuous and colourful accessory and were often satirised in contemporary art. 

Decorative, long-wearing, and authentic, hand woven wool braid garter material is furnished with handmade bronze buckles which are correct for the period 1250-1350. Self fringed end. 

Available in 4 colours and patterns: 

• Slate blue with grey stripe  
• Forest / brown box stripe  
• Forest/celery box stripe 
• Brown/grey/green stripe 

Colours have been matched to natural dye samples. Hand woven Shetland wool, bronze buckles. Sold in pairs only.
