Cotehardie, mid 14th C.

The cotehardie is taken from the tomb effigy of Walter Helyon, franklin* of Marcle, c. 1355-60 (Church of St Bartholomew, Herefordshire). It features the nipped in waist and variously spaced buttons seen on the effigy. A shapely garment popular mid century, it is better fitting than a tunic, but less tailored than the style worn my Charles of Blois.  (*In the 14th and 15th centuries, franklin was the designation of a class of landowners ranking next below the landed gentry.  As such, 'franklins' represent the beginnings of a real-property-owning middle class in England)

Buttoned length of front and wrist, vents at side bottom. Machine buttonholes, no other visible exterior machine stitching. An extremely well made garment!

Small - 40 inch chest, 34 inch waist.
Medium - 42 inch chest, 36 inch waist.
Large - 44 inch chest, 38 inch waist.
X-Large - 46 inch chest, 40 inch waist.
XX-Large - 48 inch chest, 42 inch waist.
XXX-Large - 50 inch chest, 44 inch waist.

Please note- Although we do keep a few of these in stock for emergencies, we prefer to make one up to your requirements. There is no additional charge for making a wool or linen garment to order.
