During the trial period we discovered young boys were not content with generic styles, and demanded clothes which looked "just like Dad's!", including braies and chausses. Single leg hose can be seen in artwork from the 13th (Maciejowski Bible), 14th (Tres Riches Heures) and early 15th (Mantegna) centuries. Worn laced to braies or a belt, these versatile leggings may be worn rolled down to knee or ankle in hot weather.
Pattern is a variation of the Bocksten man's hosen and from hose fragments found at Baynards Castle Dock.
Redesigned with a stirrup instead of an enclosed foot. Our tester children were more comfortable wearing modern socks under the chausses than with the historical foot. Leaving the foot off also prolongs the life of the chausses.
Linen. No visible exterior machine stitching in upper leg.
Sold as a pair (2). Simple laces for tying to braies are included.
Medium (inseam 25", thigh 17", calf 10")
Large (inseam 27", thigh 18", calf 11")
