Bascinet, after Cluny ex., c1390, Spring Steel (Made to Order)

This helmet is based primarily on a helmet dated circa 1390 in the Musee de Cluny, Paris France. This is a another typical helmet of the later 14th and early 15th centuries and were exported to countries all over Europe.

The sights and breaths are of historical dimensions- about 5/16" (8mm), reducing the possibility of sword or lance tips from entering. The visor is pierced with breaths on the right side only, away from attack of lance and sword point. The visor arms terminate in fully folded handmade hinges. 

The welded construction helmet's visor is formed by welding a cone along the bottom crease, which is then formed by raising to bring out the sights and 'mouth'. All seams are gas welded on the inside and outside, and are invisible from the outside. These helmets are quite substantial and are suitable for most reenactment purposes. 

We also offer a "raised construction" version where the skull and visor are each raised from a single plate of steel. This is the method used historically. Please inquire for details and pricing.

We recommend the addition of vervailles for the attachment of a mail aventail, and the installation of a quilted linen liner, which is stitched in through holes drilled near the edges of the face opening and bottom of the skull. 

Personally crafted by Jeffrey Hedgecock of fully heat treated 1050 spring steel with a .083" thick skull and .062" thick visor.
